sustainability awareness
Corky started acting on her concern for the environment in 2nd grade — when she started saving fresh water — for “the days when we run out”. Most folks thought she was just goofy; certainly overly worried. They were equally confused in the late 70’s when she invented her own Environmental Economics major -- never heard of at that time, at Bennington College. There she spent two years researching and writing a thesis — which accurately predicted the current role of US and state government subsidies for recycling.
Throughout her career, Corky has always been passionate and most proud of her environmental awareness and educational work. Key milestones reflect the effect of her passion:
North Pacific Squid Drift Netting: a Need for Global Awareness
half hour program for UN and Senate decision-makers on the complexity of this international issue.
Gold Telly Award Winner
The Road Less Traveled
corporate awareness film on commute trip reduction for State of Washington DOT, City of Seattle, and King County.
National awards include Telly, International Broadcast Design, & Chicago Film Festival.
Oil & Water Don’t Mix
general public awareness piece funded by Washington Citizen’s for Recycling.
On the Road to Green Driving
an environmental driver’s ed supplement for Washington State high schoolers.
Good Fortune Film Project
Based on Corky Merwin's personal experience, this hour long documentary is the first honest look at adoption of Chinese children by American families, helping to break down cultural myths and misunderstandings. Sponsored by Families with Children from China, the film raised over $45K for Chinese orphanages through sales and screenings nationwide. Good Fortune
